What are you going to do during
God's Feasts?
We receive a lot of questions about it, because many people in the Netherlands and abroad keep God's Feasts on God's Calendar. What are you going to do during those Feasts? Because we have more than 3 years of experience on this matter we certainly have some tips for you!
A thorough preparation is of utmost importance
Before you can start thinking of what to do during the Feasts you first will have to make certain preparations like:
- clearing your agenda / taking leave
- having done all groceries?
- Cleaning the house, tables, chairs, etc
- Plates, cups and couverts available and clean?
- Videos /DVDs on biblical topics in the house?
- Plugged out your doorbel? / telephone of the hook?
- Got rid of your trash?
- Mailed your letters / sent invitations?
According to the coming Feast you have to make your preparations in order not having to be busy with it during the Feast; mostly it is not even allowed because those days are often considered a Sabbath! And because Gods Feasts are often like the Sabbath one cannot do groceries, having people or companies working for you, etc.
Gods Restrictions & provisions concerning His Feast
That is where Christians are starting with when keeping the Feasts of GOD: "what restrictions has GOD given or what provisions has GOD made concerning the Feasts?".
Restrictions & provisions are for example:
- During the Sabbath one shallnot work nor have others working for him/her.
- During the first- and last days of the Feasts one shallnot work nor have others work for him/her.
- During the day of
the New Moon
one shallnot work nor have others work for him/her.
During the Passover and the connecting FOB-Feast one shallnot eat-, cook with- or keep yeast.
During Atonement Day one shallnot eat or drink; only when being an (healthy) adult.
The restrictions- and provisions GOD has laid out for Christians may seem to be patronizing or even nonsense to some at first, but when focussing on what GOD asks and acting accordingly you will also notice that the contrary is true!
- On the one hand the restrictions and provisions provide Christians with lots of rest, which is very healthy for body and mind. And of course thé answer to stress, which will also tribute to a continuing health. Alltogether the people around you will also notice the rest and health you same to have.
- On the other hand the restrictions and provisions are focussing Christians on what the particular Feast is about, what is about to happen and what that Feast means for you and your faith personally.
So: in no way the restrictions or provisions are patronizing or nonsense!
What can one do during the Feasts?
As soon as you know the restrictions/provisions belonging to a particular Feast you can also answer that question. We have experienced that your activities just need to be in the extension of what that Feast is about or at least identical to the foundation of that Feast.
Not being "an extension of" - simply a "DO-NOT!"..
- During the fasting of Atonement Day one will simply not go into heavy activities as doing sports, inviting people or getting into arguments or discussions. Because of the fasting one has less energy, one is hungry or thirsty quickly and you are quickly exhausted. One should use the little energy one still has to be resting and focussing on the meaning behind this Feast instead!
- During the other- non-fasting-Feasts one shouldnot be fasting, because that is no way to celebrate those Feasts!
- During Feasts one shouldnot be busy with movies, games, books, etc. on violence, violent behaviour or wars. Also not with paganism, hedonism or egoism.
Being according to- or an extension of the Feasts
- During Sabbath
you will enjoy your day off, being together leisurely and relaxing. On the other hand you have the needed state of body and mind to realise that GOD created all - you included- and your relaxed happiness as well! And that may lead to your gratitude in prayer, in singing songs, reading in your Bible, watching movies about biblical topics and talking to family or friends about it. Accordingly all that will enhance and strengthen your believe and awareness.
- During New Moon
'being renewed' is the topic of your day. Resting, getting rid of stress and problems consequently sleeping late, enjoying delicious and healthy meals together, enjoying eachothers company, walking-, cooking-, watching (biblical) movies-, praying-, singing-, etc together is a splendid way of according to the meaning of this Feast. Also: asking for forgiveness can mean a new start for you; both with GOD or the people you transgressed against!
- During the Passover
(starting from sunset) you keep indoors with your family. We will start that evening with the Lord's Supper; in rememberance of what Passover really is about: the Sacrifice of Jesus at the Cross. Reading from the Bible about what happened before-, during ánd after his sacrifice, talking and praying about it gives that Feast more detail and meaning.
Next we will eat a meal without yeast; prepared just before sunset. During that meal or shortly after we will almost certainly watch a movie about a biblical topic (Exodus/Moses, Jesus, etc), which may also provide you with material to pray, talk or sing about!
- During the Feast of the Unleavened Bread
there is a lot of time for personal reflection (sin, forgiveness, goals, drawing up the balance, etc.), growing in faith (reading/studying in your Bible, watching movies with a biblical topic, etc.), but also to meet eachother and sharing faith, experiences and activities. And of course sharing a meal together; of course not with yeast, but there is still a lot to eat like vegetables, beans, potatoes, rice, etc.
the Firstfruits-Feast we try to get up early (09.00 o'clock) and pray, sing and praise both GOD and Jesus. GOD because HE gave a special titel and honour to Jesus; and Jesus because he truely is the Firstfruit of many to come in his name! A nice morning-strawl (praying), having breakfast after and of course singing, watching biblical movies, etc. too.
- During Pentecost
the Spirit was poared out; in that way making it possible for everyone to be joined with GOD through the Spirit after one has accepted Jesus as God's Saviour according to the Gospel. The poaring out of the Spirit is past tense, but one can receive the Spirit / Spiritual Gifts by means of the laying on of hands during a special prayer.
- During the Feast of Trumpets
it is of major importance getting your life on track and cleaned up, because you are aware that Jesus returns. Getting things cleaned up before GOD and the people around you. This Feast is all about the return of Jesus, the end of all sin and how the cleansed people in Christ will join him. Everything that makes you focus, thinking, acting and preparing for that moment of return will make you grow in awareness of this Feast as well.
- During Atonement-Day you stay at home;
just keep your pyjamas on and relax, rest, read, listen to music, watch DVDs with biblical topics, etc. Because of the fasting economizing on energy is important. When starting this Feast asking for forgiveness of sins may be the required way to start...
- During the Feast of Tabernackles
your house and family are the centre and of major importance. And also inviting another family too. Start with making your house a cosy celebration place by means of decorations, candles, small lights, flowers, etc. And of course preparing meals together, eating together, praying together, singing together, playing together, walking together, etc. etc. etc. A Feast shared is double a Feast in that way!
- During the Last Great Day
it is also excellent to invite people over to your house and spent that day with them as well. On the one hand you may experience this day somewhat quiet (focus on Verdict and carried out Judgement) like Passover, but on the other hand it can be experienced as a happy and adventerous new moment (focus on New Heaven and Earth); celebrated as a happy Sabbath.
Be creative within the given restrictions and provisions
We have shown you how we celebrate the Feasts of GOD, but be- and feel free to creatively search for you way of it. As long as you are staying within the restrictions and provisions given by GOD and accordingly busy extending that true meaning of the Feast you will grow and be prepared for a certain future. And that is what keeping the Feasts is all about!
No 'Jewish focus' and no 'Jewish agenda'!
The Jewish content (OT) of the Feasts is definately not suitable for Christians. With that Jewish-focus it may seem that one wants to take his/her worldly descent without Jesus and his crucifixion as "saving-grace". However: Christians are not of this world anymore; in Jesus they are standing seperated of this world before GOD and consequently they are of Heavenly descent and also with an eternal future in Heaven. Christ is their Saviour. Now you can see, that the Jewish-focus is totally different from the Christian-focus.
Also: the Jewish-feasts are not based upon Gods Calender, but on a fabricated calendar of the Pharisees; and altered/changed according the Hillel-II-treaty of the 4th Century. The dates of the Feasts are therefor not according to Gods Calendar, but according to pagan feasts like the Jerobeam-calendar.
In short: like an abomination to GOD!
Just try to find out what you can do during the Feasts of GOD
according to the New-Testament-meaning of the Feasts in a way that makes you feel aware and strenghtened in your faith!
We wish you and your family Gods Blessings and happiness going along with it!
