Daniel 2: the dream of our future…!

The dream of Nebukadnessar; the King of Babylon
In Chapter two of Daniel we read the story of the dream that the King of Babylon had. No one could tell the King what the contents of his dream were and therefore they couldn't tell what the dream meant. His magicians, his wizzard, the wise-men…no one could tell him.

The King had ordered that all of his counsels, wizzard and magicians would tell the dream and explain the dream; if they could not…they and their family would be put to death and their houses would be demolished, their life-stock would be destroyed. And since they could not tell the dream King Nebukadnessar started killing them.

Daniel and his friends we considered to be wise men and so they also were threatened by the Kings decree. But they were given the opportunity to speak to the King and trying to tell what the dream was and were it was about. Daniel prayed to God and God told him in a dream what he needed to know.

The future of Babylon is partly our history and our future
God explained to Daniel that The King had dreamed of a huge
statue with a golden head, silver shoulders, a belly and hips of bronze and upper legs of iron and lower legs and feet made of clay and iron.

Then suddenly a rock parted from a bigger rock and fell against the feet of the statue. It crushed the feet and the statue fell to pieces. The rock became as big as a mountain and covered all of the Earth.

Explaining the dream
Daniel prayed to God and God explained the dream to him (Daniel 2:36-46).

(Take a look a the (time)table that belongs to this study !)

The greater part of the dream is currently our history. But the last part of the dream concerns our future.

The iron upperlegs that trempled the world
Maybe it is wise to start from the iron upper-leg. They represent The Roman Empire. And the Bible says the iron legs would tremple the world and they would also tremple our Saviour, Jesus Christ.

The second part concerns an animal with iron teeth with 10 horns (Daniel 7). This also represents the Roman Empire, but now God gives us a peek in the future.

After the Roman Empire 10 Germanic tribes would be in charge. But: as Daniel 7:8-10 states "a small horn will grow between the 10 horn and this small horn will remove 3 of the 10 horns".

The 3 horns that were removed were: The Herules, The Vandeles and The East-Gothics

The small horn was a horn with human-eyes and a boasting mouth. This small horn symbolises the Roman Catholic Church. Of course made out of "the same iron" as the Roman Empire only added with clay.

How long will the small horn reign ?

(Daniel 8:9-14)
The pope made himself mediator between God and men. But only Jesus has been given this role by God Himself.

The holy services are desecrated by the Roman Catholic Church as the same book of Daniel tells us by:

An angel tells Daniel dat the small horn will reign 2300 evenings and mornings. Every evening or morning symbolises a year. 2300 years added to the year 456 BC in which the temple was rebuilt you are in the year 1844 in which Jesus went to the Holy of Holy in the temple.

The small horn and the session in court
(Daniel 7:9-14)

As mentioned here there will be a court that will judge the small horn. Were other animals (=Kingdoms/empires) will pass without a court-session (they will continue in other empires)the small horn will not !

Why is all this knowledge so important for me ?
Daniel 7 is about our past and future. This future will be closed with the return of Jesus to this Earth (symbolised by the Rock from the Mountain that smashes the feet of the statue).

Also it is very important to know that Gods Word and Gods Commandments are true and righteous. The Gospel will apply to all men and women that have the Spirit of God as Comforter and keep His Commandments and act pure by His Word. And were they fail the Mercy of Jesus will be asked by them and He will give Gods Grace to them.

A way that destroys the Commandments of God, abolishes the Commandments of God cannot be a way of God. Let everyone on this road see which way the road leads them and let them find back the road to God. It is a small road and hard to go on.

The oil of our lamps, The Holy Spirit, will guide us on that road and He will find the way to God for us. A way which will be a tough road just like the road Jesus had to make to His Cross.

A road with a view on eternal life !

Amen !
