Demonic possession in the present time
When you think about 'demonic possession' you may think about the story of Jesus and 'Legion' in the Bible (Mark chapter 5); Jesus encounters a man possessed by numerous 'unclean spirits'.

Mark 5:6-13 - Jesus encounters a possessed man
But when he saw Jesus afar off, he ran and worshiped Him, and cried with a loud voice, and said, "What have I to do with Thee, Jesus, Thou Son of the Most High God? I adjure Thee by God that Thou torment me not!" For He had said unto him, "Come out of the man, thou unclean spirit."

And Jesus asked him, "What is thy name?" And he answered, saying, "My name is Legion, for we are many." And he besought Him much that He would not send them away out of the country. Now there was there nigh unto the mountains a great herd of swine feeding. And all the devils besought Him, saying, "Send us into the swine, that we may enter into them."

And forthwith Jesus gave them leave. And the unclean spirits went out and entered into the swine; and the herd ran violently down a steep place and into the sea (they were about two thousand), and were choked in the sea.

Clearly satans demons can reign in a person and in that way destroy the life of such a person; often also endangering the lifes of others around. Lucky for the man Jesus drove the evil spirits away.

Yet we do also know, that demons may be driven out, but that 'an empty house' still causes a threat! As long as one isnot connected to GOD through the Spirit of God (by laying on hands after baptism) your spirit and body are available for the spirits of satan. The Bible says the following:

Luke 11:24 ' "When the unclean spirit is gone out of a man, he walketh through dry places seeking rest; and finding none, he saith, ‘I will return unto my house whence I came out.’'.

How 'being possessed' is caused
A very simple answer could be: neither being 'moored' in Jesus by baptism nor being connected to GOD through His Spirit afterwards by laying on hands. And we do know from the Bible, that receiving the Spiritual Gifts actually means becoming 'a partaker of the Spirit of God'.

Hebr 6:4 'For it is impossible for those who were once enlightened and have tasted of the heavenly gift, and were made partakers of the Holy Spirit...'.

This answer -however short and biblical- willnot reveal the real causes in the present time. The actual causes have everything to do with what people are doing in everyday-life.

Mind you: they willnot walk around like Legion did; their ways will almost be invisable and blend in with lots of other people so their ways will almost be invisable... Still they will be busy with:

Examples of occult actions
The following examples of how people are increasingly busy with the occult in their everyday-lifes are:

And of course there are more ways in which people are connecting with demonic powers in their lifes, but these examples are covering a huge population of people that are in fact being possessed by demonic powers.

TV is almost exclusively about witchcraft, sorcerrors, demons, curses, superpowers, new-age-amulets, etc. All of these demonic ways are displayed as the means to obtain control, to stay in power or to get more money; usually this goes hand-in-hand with a lot of violence, war, sex and dead people dropping as flies in a world of total apathy.

No wonder very young people -they watch TV everyday- want to acquire those powers and want to be strong, sexy and pushing the buttons...

People that become actively involved in these 'spiritual seductions' are actually becoming 'enslaved territory of satan'. They are misguided by demons and in that way they are hurting both their body and mind. But they also become a threat to the people around them; satan will try to get more people in his power through his spiritual slaves...

Possessed people: visable for Christians in Jesus and Spirit!
When you are baptized and when you received the Spiritual Gifts by laying on hands afterwards you will be able to tell whether people are 'infected with evil powers'. God can make you aware of it through His Spirit. Ongoing prayer is very necessary for help and protection when you meet such people. Always remember: we have no power to cope ourselves to 'deal with demons'; our power is in God and God alone can help and protect us.

There are a number of ways to notice 'occult contamination':

From experience we know that even young children can be possessed as well; of course this is no surprise at all, because:

Confrontation between Gods Spirit and satanic spirits
When you enter a room filled with people -and you have the Gift- you will be aware of demonic prensence immediately; even without looking. And when you take a quick look around -specially looking at the eyes of people- it will become very clear within soon who this person is. The more the person is involved with occult actions the faster and the more intense the person will 'radiate demonic powers'.

But do not be mistaken: this person will also know who you are and that you are 'on the opposite site'!

2 Cor 2:14-16 - Christ leads the way!
'Now thanks be unto God, who always causeth us to triumph in Christ and who maketh manifest through us the savor of His knowledge in every place. For we are unto God a sweet savor of Christ, in those who are saved and in those who perish: to the one we are the savor of death unto death, and to the other the savor of life unto life'.

It is very important for you -being a Christian- to pray for guidance and protection.

A possessed person will probably act in the following way (no garanties!)

  1. The person will try to get out of your way and will be avoiding you
  2. The person may try to attack you; in discussion, in suggestions to others, spiritually or even with fysical violence
  3. The person will try to do a bit of both 1. and 2.

On experience we know that prayer will usually result in behaviour of trying to get away and further on being avoided. But this is not always so.

The sound response to the persons presence will always be:

In doubt: put the person through the test
Avoid fysical contact and try to find out whether the person is active with fundamental occult things in his or her life and where this 'stands' in comparison with your fundaments. This won't be easy. Of course the reactions of the person can give you a clear clue, but just looking to the person may give you more hints of where the person stands.

Just 'looking' is the safest way, but of course you can also ask indirectly.

  • Looking:

    • Try to find on his or her clothes, body or in the hair jewelry, ornaments, symbols, etc. that are occult, for example: (    Click to see pictures of occult symbols)
  • Asking:

    • Ask for special hobby's (f.e. in 'health and healing'), ask for interests in religions, listen to what the person tells about what he or she spends lots of time on, etc.
    Casting out demons...is that possible?!
    Yes, but normally only with two or more persons in Jesus and Spirit that pray; and even then it may be very difficult. When someones life is totally about active serving demons it may prove to be very difficult indeed if not impossible. It even may be a wasteless effort, because that person can simply go on with her or his life and start all over again...

    Markus 9:28-29 - Casting out demons: with prayer and fasting...
    'And when He had come into the house, His disciples asked Him privately, "Why could not we cast him out?" And He said unto them, "This kind can come forth by nothing but by prayer and fasting."'.

    1 Timothy 5:22 - Do not use 'laying on hands' for casting out demons!
    'Lay hands hastily on no man, neither be partaker of other men’s sins. Keep thyself pure.'.

    Demonic possessed persons are increasing explosively...
    The media (TV, movies, video-games, etc.) are all about witchcraft, supernatural powers, demons, etc. and because the global reach of these media lots of people are 'in the dark' now. Also the fact that it is very normal to be a witch, Kabbalah-member, Freemason, satanist or New-Age-healer helps satan to contaminate lots of people actively or passively.

    You may encounter possessed people in places where you will usually meet them as Asian/Indian or Indonesian restaurants or toko's (many pagan statues of gods there!), New Age-stores, Health-centres with Reiki, Accupunctre, Flavour-/colourtherapy, etc. But nowadays you can also most easily meet them on your birthday, in the waitingroom in the hostpital or dentist or at your neighbours-home.... Your accountant, dentist, surgeon or neighbour may even be contaminated...

    I am not telling this to scare you, but only in order to make you aware how huge the problem is and -as a result- how huge the odds are in meeting possessed people...

    When you encounter them:

  • Start praying; don't close your eyes.
  • Ask God for protection, guidance and help.
  • Ask God for the right words and actions
  • Tell God that your power and strenght is in HIM and that you count on HIM to help you!
