Explanation of the vision in Daniel 9:24
'Seventy weeks are decreed upon thy people and upon thy holy city, to finish transgression, and to make an end of sins, and to make reconciliation for iniquity, and to bring in everlasting righteousness, and to seal up vision and prophecy, and to anoint the most holy'.

70 weeks for the Jewish people
It is very important to know, that the 'decreed 70 weeks' were fixed for the Jewish people only, because this is what Daniel 9:24 tells us!

Unfortenately the word 'decreed' was used; 'set apart' would have been better, because these 70 weeks are only a minor period cut off from the 2.300 evening and mornings before the end of time we also know from Daniel 8:14.

What are these '70-year-weeks' and '2.300 evening- & mornings' about?!
Weeks and days are used in the Bible to point out a certain period of time. How we know this for sure?

In Daniel 8:13 the angel (saint) asks: 'How long will the vision be while the regular burned offering is taken away, and the unclean thing causing fear is put up, and the holy place crushed under foot? And he said to him, For two thousand, three hundred evenings and mornings; then the holy place will be made clean'.

From this we can conclude, that a certain period of time has to pass before the end will be. And from Ezekiel 4:6 and Numeri 14:34 we can find out, that one 'prophetic day' stand for one year in time.

An easy calculation tells us, that 2.300 evenings- & mornings are in fact 2.300 years. Also 70-weeks are calculated to be 70 * 7 days = 490 days = 490 years. And these 490 years were kept seperate from the 2.300 years that will have to follow to the end when Jesus return to us.

What would happen during these '70 year-weeks' ?!
As you can read at the top of this page: 'a most holy person will be anointed' and transgression will be put to an end. What does this mean and what will happen?!

Daniel 9:25-27
'Know therefore and discern, that from the going forth of the commandment to restore and to build Jerusalem unto the anointed one, the prince, shall be seven weeks, and threescore and two weeks: it shall be built again, with street and moat, even in troublous times.

And after the threescore and two weeks shall the anointed one be cut off, and shall have nothing: and the people of the prince that shall come shall destroy the city and the sanctuary; and the end thereof shall be with a flood, and even unto the end shall be war; desolations are determined.

And he shall make a firm covenant with many for one week: and in the midst of the week he shall cause the sacrifice and the oblation to cease; and upon the wing of abominations shall come one that maketh desolate; and even unto the full end, and that determined, shall wrath be poured out upon the desolate'.

It is important to know, that the 70 weeks were specially meant for the people of Daniel; the Jewish people. This period of 490 years started at a certain moment in time, but also ended at a certain moment in time. The remaining time (2,300 hundred evenings and mornings minus 490 years) are meant for all other people and nations!

From Temple to the Anointed Temple
The Bible tells us in Ezra 7:12-13 when the decision to rebuild the Temple of Jerusalem starts; with the decree of King Artaxerxes (457 BC):

'Artaxerxes, king of kings, unto Ezra the priest, the scribe of the law of the God of heaven, perfect and so forth. I make a decree, that all they of the people of Israel, and their priests and the Levites, in my realm, that are minded of their own free will to go to Jerusalem, go with thee.'.

7 weeks later (1 day = 1 year; 7 weeks = 49 year) the Temple had been rebuild (408 BC). The Bible tells us from the moment after the completion of the Temple (7 weeks) another 'Anointed Temple' (Jesus) will come into action; 62 weeks after 408 BC. 62 weeks equals 62 * 7 years = 434 years, so 434 years added to (-) 408 (BC) makes the year 27 AD.

What happened in the year 27?!
According to this Bible-passage after the restoration of the Temple in Jerusalem 62 weeks will pass and an Anointed One will come into action. The Temple of Jerusalem still standed untouched and no Jewish King had been declared ruler of Israel... so... who would this 'Anointed One' be?!

The baptism of Jesus and the Spirit of GOD descending on Jesus after baptism
As we know from Luke 3:1-21 Jesus was baptized in the fifteenth year of of reign of Emperor Tiberius Caeser. We only have to check the history-books in order to find out that this year is actually the year 27 AD:

The history-books declare the following:

Tiberius Claudius Nero (42 BC - 37 AD)
'Tiberius Caeser succeeds Augustus Caeser. He lives in the shadow of his stepfather. He was very unhappy because he was forced into marrying a woman he cannot stand at all; he was 55 years old when he came to power'.

When you add 55 years to the date of birth of Tiberiues Caeser (42 BC) we know that he started as emperor in the year 12 (the year '0' not counted!); fifteen years added leads to the year 27 AD; the year Christ -the Anointed of GOD- was baptized ánd anointed with the Spirit of GOD!

So now we have deducted what the first part of Daniel actually means: besides a temple of bricks a symbolic tempel is going to be build; a king anointed by GOD. 'Christ' actually means 'anointed by GOD'...

But: what is meant with the rest of Daniel 9:27 …????
'And he shall make a firm covenant with many for one week: and in the midst of the week he shall cause the sacrifice and the oblation to cease; and upon the wing of abominations shall come one that maketh desolate; and even unto the full end, and that determined, shall wrath be poured out upon the desolate'.

Many historians and theologians think, that this Bible-passage is about 'the Temple of bricks'; about its services and its destruction, but we now know this is certainly not the case. The temple this passage is talking about is actually the Holiest of all Temples: Jesus; the Anointed Son of GOD!!

Let us just 'add-up' the rest of week mentioned in this passage of Daniel to find out if it fits...

  • 'in the midst of the week he shall cause the sacrifice and the oblation to cease'

Counting from the year 27 AD of the baptism of Jesus and his anointing with the Spirit of GOD afterward we have to add 3,5 years. The outcome is the year 30 AD in which Jesus was cruficified. By means of this crucifiction and his being raised from the dead the sacrifice and oblation in the Temple 'of bricks' ceased to exist. Only through Jesus we now can receive forgiveness for our transgressions.

How about the remaining half week to the end...?!
Untill Jesus became our Lord and Saviour at the cross the Jewish people had a starring role in the Plan of GOD. And after the resurrection of Jesus the Jewish people still had a possibility to continue in Gods Plan of Salvation.

But most of the Jewish people refused Gods Salvation; they rejected Jesus as the Son of GOD. After the apostle Stephen was put to death (with stones) the Apostles started to preach the Gospel outside Israel to all people in the world. And in this way 'the starring role' of the Jewish people ended.

The 70 'yearweeks' given to the Jewish people of Daniel ended and the remaining 'days of the 2,300 evenings and mornings' have started for all people on Earth.
